・ Meet Ms. Masako (Masa)
I have been involved in industrial translation for a long time and am still working as a translator, but I also work as an interpreting guide. We guide not only foreign customers, but Japanese customers as well.
Currently, I am a guide for river cruises in Dotonbori, the symbol of Kansai; a guide for walks along the old highway; and a guide for students on school excursions in Kyoto and Nara.
The most rewarding thing in life is seeing the smiles of customers saying, "It was fun!"
My hobby is eating. In particular, I have an eye for sweets. I enjoy finding favorite shops wherever I go.
Born and raised in Kansai, there are actually a lot of elderly women there. One of the characteristics of Kansai aunties is that they love to talk! Since they love to chat so much, It is a bit overwhelming.
If no one intervenes, they will keep talking forever.
The secret to a healthy and long life is to communicate with people and laugh!
Having lived in Kansai for more than half a century, I hope that many people will enjoy the plethora of history accumulated in my beloved Kansai.

Reviews
Great tour guide - very cool personality made it fun and personal!
Lovely tour of the main Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines in Kyoto with a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Lots of explanation and historical anecdotes which made the visit super interesting. We would otherwise pass by beautiful sites without really understanding. We had the tour guide to ourselves and she was super nice, good English.
My husband and I had the absolute pleasure of exploring Kyoto with Masa this morning, and we cannot recommend her highly enough. From the moment we met, she was warm, kind, and knowledgeable, making us feel instantly at ease. Her pacing throughout the tour was perfect — we never felt rushed, and she was so patient when we wanted to pause to take photos and soak in the scenery. My husband’s favorite subject is history, and Masa brought Kyoto’s rich past to life with fascinating stories and deep historical insight. We learned so much from her, and her passion for sharing her city’s culture was evident in every stop we made. We are so grateful for her thoughtfulness, expertise, and generosity of spirit. Anyone visiting Kyoto would be lucky to spend the day with her — we would recommend her to all of our friends and family visiting Japan!
My family and I delighted in this rich and extensive tour experience. We covered a lot of ground in five hours and saw much more than we would have on our own. Masako-san is very knowledgeable and has a warm, welcoming personality.
Our family of 5 took this tour and it was good. Though it was extremely hot and crowded, our guide Masa managed our family well. I would note that this is more of a historical tour than a shopping one ( our kids wanted to stop everywhere) so it may not be ideal if you just wanted to stroll and browse, but we enjoyed every stop on the tour!
Our guide Masa was a wonderful host. She took us to truly awe-inspiring places and gave us a deeper meaning of each location and better understanding of the Japanese culture. It was really hot but Masa was a trooper and was patient when we needed to stop for water many times. She tailored the trip to us because we had been to one of the shrines the day before and showed us more about the festival in Gion taking place. She explained the use of the chimaki to ward off infectious diseases and gifted us one for our home. She is the best and we really enjoyed learning from her ❤️
This is a great tour to learn about the history and culture of Kyoto. The tour guide is educated on all things Kyoto and will bring you to all of the popular tourist spots as well as some hidden gems. It’s also a great way to meet new people along the way.
Masa our tour guide is an angel. My friends and I joined this tour and befriended the other guests on the tour as well. The tour was informative and fun. Book this for a wholesome experience :)
This tour was certainly filled with all the highlights and many great locations around Kyoto. Our guide worked very hard to provide us the most opportunities to see an experience all the locations throughout the city.
Great tour! My daughter and I did it on our first day in Kyoto and our guide was wonderful. Not only was she super nice and knowledgeable, she was also well equipped and lent us two umbrellas which really helped in the intense heat! Great way to start our trip! We especially enjoyed finishing the tour at Nishiki market :) Thank you for everything!
We had a beautiful day exploring some of Kyoto’s most iconic cultural locations with our wonderful guide, Masa.
Masa’s approach was thoughtful, her insights and knowledge made our experience of the locations visited richer and she had a lovely, gentle energy which was a salve as we made our way through busy crowds on a hot Kyoto day.
Thank you, Masa! Mike & I loved our day with you.
Great host, very knowledgeable, nice , friendly, humble, and extremely hard worker, ready to go an extra mile for everything that we asked
Meg (Megumi) was an attentive and informative host. The heat was full on but that didn't phase her and she made sure we were in the shade when possible. There's no way we could've done this tour ourselves, and we enjoyed going through the sideways and secret passages. As first-time visitors to Japan and Kyoto, we appreciated the insider knowledge and sights. Thank you
Masa was truly delightful. She was so sweet and kind. She was also very patient with our four rambunctious kids. We appreciated her insights into Japanese culture. She also helps us find a wonderful place to rent Kimonos and took pictures of the experience. Thank you for a wonderful morning!
Masako did great job, we’ve seen most of Kyoto in short time with great describing and answering most questions we’ve asked. Just perfect!
Awesome experience. You really get to see so many iconic places in Kyoto, plus you get the backstory on all these places too! Much better than simply walking through a place and saying ‘wow what a cool place’. With the story behind all these locations you get the right context for all these popular sights. Highly recommend. Be ready to walk under the hot sun if you are doing this at the height of the summer season!
Thank you for a wonderful time. Masako’s kindness, knowledge and planning was outstanding. I was truly amazed and all the places we experienced.
We had the best time on this tour! We got to see so much more than we would have had we tried to visit the sites ourselves. It can be tricky going from place to place and it would have taken much longer to do. Our guide was such a delight as well. She was so kind and informative. I highly recommend this experience!!
Masako did a great job showing us around the most popular spots in Kyoto. She also gave us the right amount of informations and historical facts about the places we were visiting. The group pictures that were taken at each spot and sent to us right after the tour were very wholesome and make a nice memory.
As first time visitors, it was a great way to get an impression of the famous town.
Great communication. The day was hot, but Masako was on point the whole time and provided and overview of several major sites of Kyoto. The small size of the group was good, too
Overall, great tour which highlighted all the top shrines and temples in the area, as well as the shopping district. Meg was very informative. It was especially hot that day, but Meg had umbrellas for all of us, which was so nice and unexpected!
It was great to learn a lot about each of the sites. Massa was very knowledgeable.
