I have been involved in industrial translation for a long time and am still working as a translator, but I also work as an interpreting guide. We guide not only foreign customers, but Japanese customers as well.
Currently, I am a guide for river cruises in Dotonbori, the symbol of Kansai; a guide for walks along the old highway; and a guide for students on school excursions in Kyoto and Nara.
The most rewarding thing in life is seeing the smiles of customers saying, "It was fun!"
My hobby is eating. In particular, I have an eye for sweets. I enjoy finding favorite shops wherever I go.
Born and raised in Kansai, there are actually a lot of elderly women there. One of the characteristics of Kansai aunties is that they love to talk! Since they love to chat so much, It is a bit overwhelming.
If no one intervenes, they will keep talking forever.
The secret to a healthy and long life is to communicate with people and laugh!
Having lived in Kansai for more than half a century, I hope that many people will enjoy the plethora of history accumulated in my beloved Kansai.

Reviews
This was the highlight of our trip to Kyoto! Unfortunately we were 10 minutes late but Megumi waited for us and we REALLY appreciated that. She is such a kind person and made us feel so welcome and cared for the entire day. My feet were hurting toward the end and she suggested a great coffee shop for me to sit and wait for an hour while the group went uphill to one of the final locations. We saw amazing spots, had a wonderfully fun and inexpensive lunch, and saw a geisha!! It was such a perfect day. Thank you!
Hands down recommend!!!! I’m overweight and out of shape so 25,000 steps was rough for me. But it was still worth it. We got to see and experience so much in one day! Our guide was hilarious and interactive. She was kind, funny, patient and so knowledgeable. We also got to meet some really cool people also traveling from far away to experience Japan. We absolutely loved our experience and would definitely book again in the future. Just BE prepared for 20k to 25k steps. Bring LOTS of water (or change to get at the vending machines throughout) and a phone charger. We took a million photos. Such a memorable day! 🥰
This is a great way to get the layout of Kyoto and to see most of the major sites in one visit. Megumi was an amazing tour guide! She was very knowledgeable, personable and regularly made sure that we made it to our stops on time and that we stayed hydrated. I recommend this tour for anyone who has a short amount of time to stay in Kyoto or for folks who want to learn the layout of the city with explanations about where your going and what you're looking at. Thanks again, Meg, for the wonderful tour!
I have been traveling around SE Asia and have been on a lot of tours, but the kindness, effort, and knowledge provided by Megumi outshines all the other guides. My time in Kyoto will be a memory I will cherish forever thanks to Megumi. She had so much history to share at each site and went above and beyond to make sure each guest were comfortable. She went out of her way after work to help fix my Suica card, and also spent extra time after work helping other members of the group order a taxi and also rode with me on the train halfway home to make sure I would not get lost. Our particular group was not easy to manage today, but she handled it with patience, grace and kindness. Please request for Megumi, you will not be disappointed. If I ever visit Japan again, I would love to have her as a guide.
My experience was amazing. I had an absolutely incredible host. I was like lucky to be the only one in the group and had a somewhat of a personalized experience. She explained everything in detail and answered all of my questions. She was sweet, kind and helpful. She was thoughtful and went out of her way by taking pictures when I asked. She was the best.
I'd recommend, 5/5:
1. Great option to it all in Kyoto in one (albeit long) day.
2. Amazing value for money and time
3. Masako was a great guide/host.
Megumi is an incredible host, she is extremely knowledgeable of the areas and history surrounding them. She is also very personable and the conversation flows very nicely along the way. I would definitely recommend this tour and Megumi to anyone looking to spend the day exploring Kyoto alongside a local to better appreciate the culture and history.
Excellent tour. Masa is the favorite of the whole group. We all loved her ✨. Kind and humorous, she covered most of Kyoto's sights, not only showing them but also informing the group members about the history of each. I recommend to take this tour the first day in Kyoto.💫
The tour offered by Team Jun was a fun and informative adventure! We got to see most of the interesting and popular sights around Kyoto while receiving expert narration by our tour guide Masa. Lots of fun to be had with this tour, and I’d say it was worth our time and money. Just be prepared to walk a lot!
What a great way to see Kyoto!
The itinerary was packed, which was just what we wanted! And although we went to lots of places on the tour, it did not feel rushed! A great way to meet other travellers too, and get their tips on the places they have been to. Very well organised and great tour!
Megumi was an absolute gem for our tour. We covered so much ground and got to see so much all in one day, and Megumi was a joy to talk to and learn from. We absolutely loved this tour and would recommend it to others! Definitely one of the best tours of our trip :)
We did this tour with Masa and she was fabulous! Took care of everyone and made sure all our interests were catered for. The tour is amazing and a must if you have a short time in Kyoto and still want to enjoy all its main sights and attractions. Cannot recommend this highly enough : thank you Masa!
My husband and I took up this experience, and we had such an amazing time learning about Kyoto, and visiting so many cultural and historical landmarks. Our guide, Masako had such a warm and welcoming aura! She was so cheerful throughout the tour and answered all our questions and doubts during the trip. She was also extremely helpful in giving us suggestions for the rest of our Kyoto stay. I would recommend this experience to you a 100% :)
AMAZING! Must do tour if you’re in Kyoto and want to see all the highlights in 1 day. Thoughtful and efficient way to tour Kyoto. Plenty of bathroom breaks. Meg knew all the best spots to get pictures and be in fewer crowds. She presented at each location interesting facts with pictures. It was so informative and a highlight of our trip. Meg was also so helpful in carrying our umbrellas and taking photos and providing recommendations and tips to get home. I would do another tour with Meg!
We had the lovely Megumi as our guide to show us around the highlights of Kyoto. This tour, involving a small group, was excellent value for money and is highly recommended if you are time limited. I have travelled extensively around the world and know the value local guides bring. Megumi would have to be one of the best I have come across. She was highly knowledgeable, informative and engaging. Our family learnt a lot about Kyoto which would have been impossible on our own. She also was great with my two young daughters and involved them throughout the long day. As a bonus, we managed to see a geisha in Gion! You know you have been on a great tour when it doesn't feel like a tour. Would have no hesitation in undertaking again!
If you only have a limited amount of time in Kyoto but still want to experience everything this is the tour for you.
Everything is super well planned and the transports between the sights goes very smoothly so you spend most of the time at the sights.
Masako, our guide, was very well prepared, knowledgeable and interesting to listen to.
I highly recommend this tour.
This is a must do in Kyoto if you are fit for the journey. Meg was amazing! she had a story book that had a treasure trove of facts and pictures about various aspects of Kyoto's lifestyle and history. A jam packed schedule with a lot to see and experience. We loved it. Thank you Med and Team Jun
Great way to see the major sights in Kyoto - Meg was a fabulous guide who kept us all moving along to our next location. It was great to have a break from figuring out the public transportation in Kyoto - Meg knew exactly where to go. She explained what we were seeing and its history. Be prepared to walk 20,000+ steps despite using the subway, train, tram and bus.
Masa San was a great guide, she is kind, thoughtful and well-prepared. The day of our travel was pretty hot and it requires a lot of walking. The day was packed and we were able to reach some spots that only locals seem to know. However, most of the members were not buddhists, which made the trip a little less engaging for us as it could be.
Masa San was really above and beyond on taking care of us, but the language could still be a little challenging. It’d be helpful if one of the group members knows Japanese and could help translate to get some ideas across.
The trip would be as valuable even if it weren’t this intense. Please pay attention to the weather forecast as you probably don’t want to get a heat stroke under the hot weather.
My family had an absolute blast on this tour! Masa, our tour guide, couldn’t have been more fun, sweet and enthusiastic. We saw so much in one day and would never have been able to navigate it all on our own. Thank you Masa for making our trip to Kyoto one we will never forget✨
Our tour guide Megumi was incredible! She is very good at explaining things and is really funny too. She learned everyone’s name and you could tell she cared about each and everyone’s experience. Megumi was very patient and accommodating when my grandmother couldn’t keep up with the tour anymore. She also gave wonderful recommendations to the next cities we were traveling to! 5 stars!
The experience with Meg was definitely the highlight of the Kyoto part of our trip! She has huge knowledge about the culture, everyday life, you can ask her anything. Her English is also very very very good! Which we noticed doesn't happen often in Japan. We had plenty of short breaks so we could grab sth small to drink or some snack, everything was timed nicely. Come well rested to the experience and you will have the best time!
Our tour with Megumi was amazing! We saw SO much of Kyoto that I’m not sure we would’ve gotten to experience. The tour was perfectly paced and Megumi shared lots of history, answered all of our questions, both about Japan/Kyoto in general and personal, and was intentional with spending time with everyone in the group. I cannot recommend a better tour to get to know this beautiful city. Thank you so much, Megumi!! :)
Masa was great! Very dedicated and full of knowledge. Wonderful lady to spend the day with. She really makes sure to take care of the entire group and has such a great energy about her.
Wear very comfy shoes ya’ll. We logged in 22,000 steps that day. But it was great to see as much as we did 😊
Our group was really nice & everyone got along. We even enjoyed dinner with some of them when the tour ended.
Our Kyoto experience was delightful, largely due to our exceptional guide. Her energy and kindness shone as she shared her deep knowledge of the city's rich history and culture. Each site, from the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove to Kinkaku-ji, was vividly brought to life through her engaging stories. Masa’s infinite energy is only matched by her patience. It’s truly a worthwhile experience.
Awesome way to see some top spots in Kyoto. Many I never would’ve gone too if not for this tour. The guide is also very knowledgeable about the spots visited. Honestly the entire day was perfectly planned and very seamless. I would recommend!
Conveyor belt Sushi spot for lunch was cool but the food was just okay. Also 12 spots in 8 hours is quite the feat, so sometimes it feels rushed to go through each site! Keep in mind what spots you may want to go back through at a leisurely pace if you have time on another day.
I didn’t have a ton of time in Kyoto and wanted to make it count! My tour with Megumi was a blast and we managed to see so many key sights in Kyoto in one day. She was delightful and knowledgeable and taught us so much about the area and the sights we visited. Also gave us a couple of windows of free time to wander for snacks and shopping. The sushi lunch was delish and another fun experience with conveyer belt sushi! I went alone and made a couple new friends with other solo travelers, as well as the couples who attended. Don’t underestimate the amount of walking you’ll do- I am a runner and endurance athlete and my feet were still protesting at the end of the day- wear good walking shoes! Thank you Team Jun for a great day!
Masa's walking tour through Kyoto was an absolute delight! Her thoughtfulness and knowledge were evident in every detail, from the carefully chosen route across 12 sites to the fascinating historical anecdotes and facts she shared. Masa's deep knowledge and passion for Kyoto made the city come alive and left me with more appreciation and understanding. She went above and beyond to ensure we had our needs met and spent extra time helping us find our way home! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tour to close friends and family but make sure you're wearing comfortable shoes :)
Fumiko made sure that everyone was comfortable even though we spent all day walking. Even if my questions were not related to what we were seeing, she always had an answer to them. We learned a lot about the story of Japan / Kyoto without ever feeling like it was too much or boring. Definitely recommend this for everyone who wants to do a comprehensive tour of Kyoto. Ask for Fumiko!
Sincerely appreciate the meticulous effort to plan and organize the walking tour to 12 places in Kyoto from 9 am to 6 pm in one day. Meg was able to fully engage all the participants in learning and appreciating Japanese heritage and culture even though many of us were physically exhausted from walking more than 12 km for the entire tour. She was patient and understanding in delivering top-notch professional service as a tour guide. I will definitely recommend this experience to my family and friends.
This tour was an incredible value and something I never would have been able to do on my own. Masa was an enthusiastic guide and ushered the group on and off trains, buses and subways at an impressive speed! The day was jam-packed with temples and shrines, and the sushi lunch was a real highlight. Be sure to wear good shoes and expect to walk a lot-I mean A LOT-with tons of stairs and inclines. Now I know where I want to go tomorrow to shop and eat! Thank you!
Great tour covering all the must see places in Kyoto. Finished the day at 11 miles and worth every step! Our guide Megumi was amazing! She shared so much great info not just about each stop but Japanese culture, history and customs. 100% recommend!
Megumi-san is not only well-versed in Japan, but also very well-traveled and knows many things in general, she was also a humorous conversationalist who made the 10-hour walking tour feel fun and shorter than it was.
This was the most high-yield tour I have ever been on. We truly hit all the highlights of Kyoto and learned so many cultural tidbits along the way. I loved all the walking and the various modes of transportation. It made for a stress-free way to see the city where I didn’t have to plan everything out. The sites that were chosen were thoughtful and beautiful. Even though they emphasize that you will be walking 20,000 steps, I thought it was doable. The tour went a little longer than listed but Masa didn’t rush through anything. This would be a challenging tour if you have an injury, have young children (because it’s a very long day), or don’t wear the right shoes. They are serious about arriving on time. A couple of people on our tour were left behind because they were 20 minutes late. Overall, if you don’t have much time in Kyoto this was an amazing, high yield, high bang-for-your-buck kind of tour that I would strongly recommend to get your bearings and a flavor of the city! You can then use the rest of your time here to revisit favorite stops or see other things. Thank you, Team Jun!
Overall experience was great! Nothing I would’ve change Masa was great! Very knowledgeable and extremely helpful.
Heads to anyone booking bring comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk. The views and experience is totally worth it. You will not regret it.
I’m glad I was able to experience Kyoto this way than having to navigate all of the itinerary on my own.
Our tour guide Masako was such a great tour guide! At first we were a bit anxious because we were told by the tour creator (not the actual tour guide) that they were about to leave without us because we were going to be 1 minute late. It definitely got us a little anxious. But definitely just plan a lot of time ahead to be there on time because it’s just the Japanese culture to never run late so I completely understand. It took us almost an hour to get there because of traffic so just be very aware of time. However once the tour started, our actual tour guide was the most kind woman. She was so informative of so much Kyoto culture and we got to see so many iconic Kyoto spots. Nothing felt too rushed. She allowed time to take pictures and time to fully get the experience of each stop. We had such a fun time and I highly recommend.
Perfect tour if you don't have much time in Kyoto. We saw a lot, and walked a lot too. It was really fun and informative. We would've definitely struggled to see all the sites had we been on our own. Getting around was made easy with Jun's efficient organising and planning - it was really nice not having to worry about any of that and just enjoy the temples, shrines and sites.
Jun was also great at answering our questions and providing personal recommendations. Definitely worth doing this experience!
Masa was our guide for the day and she is the sweetest woman with a great sense of humor. She gave great history lessons and taught us how to use the local transportation system, so it’s a perfect “Day 1” activity. She also helped out one of the other guests find the train station and temple stamps to collect, which made me regret not getting a stamp book sooner!
It’s a long day, and probably not for those not using to walking up to 6miles a day, but well worth it if you have a limited time in Kyoto and have an open mind. Wear COMFORTABLE shoes!! The restaurant for lunch (conveyor belt sushi) takes credit card, but most of the shops for snacks, souvenirs, and all of the temple admission fees are cash only.
Don’t hesitate! Book now!! Masa was an excellent host: full of energy, story telling and humor! Our day started out with rain, and Masa came to the rescue with her “Mary Poppins” backpack that held not one, not two, not three but enough umbrellas for all of us who thought we’d just borrow our partner’s umbrella! Make sure you bring an external charger for your phone because 9 hours of taking photos and videos drained all of our batteries. Masa again came to the rescue with her Mary Poppin’s bag! She was delightful as she was insightful with her subtle jokes and stories imbued with Japanese culture. She still had so much energy while the rest of us were exhausted by the end! Don’t hesitate! You truly get your money’s worth and so much more!!
Megumi was our tour guide and I can’t put into words how her local knowledge and personalized stories made the experience one of a lifetime. You can see all of the highlights of Kyoto on your own, sure. But having someone like Megumi show us the structures of things like the Golden Temple and provide stories of how and why it was built, what these building signify to the Japanese people and how it fits into Japan’s ancient history elevates the experience of touring this wonderful city.
She exercises extreme patience and grace. Making sure everyone who needs rest or a break can take one and also allowing “free time” if we want to snack or shop for things we might have seen along the way, and then meet back up afterwards.
The only warning is that if you are not used to walking long or fast, you may have some trouble. So bring water and very supportive shoes! Most temples are uphill and you’ll be walking nearly nonstop for the full time.
Finally, please don’t take photos of the geiko like some of our group did. They are working :) Highly highly recommended overall!
Megumi was a lovely guide! It was great way to get introduced to some of Kyoto's popular sightseeing spots especially for my partner who was on his first visit to Kyoto. Kyoto has became really crowded with tourists over the years. We managed to successfully navigate around these spots with ease and efficiency while enjoying the sights. There was sufficient toilet breaks so please hydrate and walk on. While I would like a little more time for souvenir shopping but understandably something's gotta give. The others were not joking. There is ALOT of walking but still manageable.
We adored our host, Masa-San! She was knowledgeable, conscientious, witty and took great care to make sure all the guests kept up with the very fast pace of the experience…a challenge for my senior age. I was determined to keep up and I am proud that I met the challenge! The destinations encompassed all the most popular areas and every site I wanted to visit and more! However we had no time to engage with the locals or make purchases along the way. I highly recommend this tour as a cultural introduction but if you want to experience a more casual touristy experience, maybe it’s not for you. The tour was a great introduction to the area and I gleaned a lot of knowledge about the culture. However, I feel like I have to go back and leisurely explore all the area has to offer.
If you want to see as much of Kyoto as possible in just one day, this tour is for you. Each destination was beautiful and unique in its own way. We enjoyed the food/shopping along the way as well. Meg was a wonderful guide who has so much knowledge of the area. It would have been very difficult for us to do this on our own. Meg assisted with all the transportation and gave great recommendations for food and souvenirs. I would highly recommend this tour to get the most out of your stay in Kyoto!
Great tour to cover the highlights of Kyoto. Don’t think I could have done this myself as Kyoto’s transportation (especially the bus) is a bit harder to use than other cities like Osaka. Please prepare to walk a lot. Would be good for guests to have a few days of practice of walking 20K steps. The uphill at kiyomizu dera was the most challenging. The sushi go round was a fun experience. Also bring some light snacks just in case you get hungry at spots which doesn’t sell food.
Excellent tour and incredible experience! I would recommended to anyone visiting Kyoto! Megumi, our tour guide was great. She was so kind to all of us and very informative. We learned so much about religion, culture, food ,temples. We visited great places on this tour! Thanks so much Megumi for the tour. We appreciated you, We had such a great time.
The perfect tour to see all the highlights of Kyoto. It was exactly what I had envisioned! Lovely tour guide and memories made. My only recommendation if you're thinking of booking, it to wear comfy gym shoes. I wore comfy cute shoes that were flat and I was achey from a long day of walking afterwards. A lovely tour! I would recommend it.
The best walking tour in Kyoto. Within in 9 hours, we have already explore all of the iconic spot in the north, west, east, south and central part of Kyoto. I have learned so so much about Japanese culture. The local sushi lunch place we were brought to is another amazing add-on. So much fun to eat as a local! Highly recommend if you are 1st time in Kyoto
Not gonna lie, it’s a very full, exhausting day, but if you’re up for it and don’t have a lot of time in Kyoto it’s a great way to see all the sights. I could never have navigated such a complete itinerary without help. Masa was a wonderful tour guide. She was sweet, knowledgeable and really paid attention to what everyone in the group might need. Highly recommended.
this guide squeezes in MANY different temple experiences across Kyoto and exposes you to public transportation and the layout in Kyoto. I would recommend this for anyone, especially if it's your first day in Kyoto.
Our guide, Masa, completes the experience. she is so funny, kind, and knowledgeable.
This was my second time taking the tour (I brought new friends this time) and it was all because Masa was such a great guide!
Megumi was an amazing Kyoto tour guide! As a solo traveller she made me feel included in the group and was very helpful! She’s so lovely and I enjoyed my conversations with her.
The tour was so informative and we managed to visit majority of the historical and cultural spots in Kyoto. I managed to see the rare appearance of a Maiko in Gion, which was awesome! As it was my third day there, I wasn’t sure how to use the transport system however, Megumi was throughly explained how to use the trains and buses. It has definitely increased my confidence in using public transport, especially after I left when the tour ended.
I would definitely recommend this tour. It was quite the workout with a lot of steps, especially with the occasional bad weather, but it’s so worth it!
This was one of my best days in Japan!’ I got to see almost everything and I was amazed at how much we managed to get in!! We were all well taken care of by our kind and caring host. This is for active travelers who are able to move fast and enjoy brisk walking and distances. I got a great workout while enjoying almost all of what Kyoto offers in a single day!! So worth it!!!
All communication on how and where to find the tour, etc were clear and timely. Tour is structured well to make very good use of your day hitting all major areas of the city and many of the top attractions. We did the tour our first full day in Kyoto which was great because Meg was very helpful in sharing local knowledge, cultural tips and additional sights we could do on our own in our remaining couple of days. Meg was very friendly, a great host, very patient with the large group we were with and gave us time to enjoy the destinations but also kept us moving along. Nine hours can be a long day if you’re not used to being on your feet from 9-6. The tour includes some transportation on buses and trains so some opportunities irked to sit. We travel internationally frequently and are used to long 20,000 steps days but there were a few in the group who were not. The food experiences were unique and fun. Thanks Meg and Team Jun - we had a lot of fun!
An amazing way to watch all the best of Kyoto in one day!
The tour was not only great because of the beautiful sights, and cultural insights, but also thanks to the very friendly and knowledgeable guide, who made the day special.
Even though there’s a lot in the programme, it doesn’t feel busy at the different spots, with plenty of time to enjoy everything.
Very recommendable experience.
Take this tour! Like many folks, I had limited time in Kyoto and wanted to see all the magical sites. Masa’s tour allowed me to relax and just enjoy the day without obsessing over transportation, etc. She got us from place to place smoothly, gave thoughtful commentary on each location, answered all our questions, and kept us on schedule so we could see all we could.
The pace is brisk but not unmanageable if you’re in relatively good shape. I would take some ibuprofen before (I did and it helped) to keep your feet from getting too sore. I wore Hokas and I did just fine. We were promised 20,000 steps and we certainly got them.
Overall 14 out of 10. Thank you Masa!!
I did this tour on my first day in Kyoto and really enjoyed it. It gave me a foundation of where to explore. I ended up returning to some of the places we visited on the tour for additional shopping. Learned alot of cool facts and history.
Great way of seeing all the sights of Kyoto in one day. They are very spread out so this way you get guided round the public transport network as well as to the temples and shrines. Lunch was super fun too in a sushi restaurant where the dishes went whizzing by and you can win capsules by posting the plates! Would recommend this tour for sure. Our guide Meg was also very nice with interesting facts about Japan.
I want to start this review by stating that Megumi is an incredible tour guide! Not only did she show us the history of the places we visited but she also answered any outstanding question our group had. She is very friendly, and demonstrates a very professional and passionate attitude when prividing tour guide services. I cannot commend her enough. Megumi made our a day an event that we will not soon forget. Thank you very much for your services!
This tour was fantastic! Meg was a delight, the absolute best tour guide I ever had. I was nervous about all the walking at first but once you start walking, talking and taking in Japan you do not really notice the amount of steps you take. Meg was so friendly, funny and gave a lot of great history about Japan/kyoto! Perfect tour if you are just in Kyoto for two or three days because you see so much
Book this tour! Megumi took care of all tour participants throughout the day, and shared insights that we wouldn't have thought to look for on our own. She had a clear plan for the day's highlights, but was thoughtful and willing to flex based on group interest--like a stop at %ARABICA early on. Of the many highlights of our trips to Japan, this was at the top of the list.
Megumi was a super tour guide! I learned many interesting things about Japan and Japanese culture. She explained very well about different things and took care of all participants from the beginning to the end.
We visited many popular tourist places in a day. Highly recommend, especially if you are a first time visitor in Kyoto or if you are short of time in Kyoto
Masa-san was an incredible guide and the experience was unforgettable. She was knowledgeable, attentive, and even brought umbrellas and hand warmers for everyone- which was greatly appreciated. Truly the best way to see everything there is to see in Kyoto if you only have a day or two. You will learn so much about the history, shrines, and people of the city- absolutely worth the full day. Make sure to wear comfy shoes and come with *lots* of energy, it’s an adventure.
We had such a great time on this tour. We learned so much from our guide Masa and she was super funny. We would have never gotten a lot of the information had we decided to visit these sites on our own. Masa was extra thoughtful and never once made me feel bad for having to stop to use the restroom multiple times as I am 5 months pregnant. The tour was definitely a lot of walking but I was able to do it just fine and am so glad that I didn't let the amount of walking mentioned in all the reviews scare me away. The places we visited were so beautiful and really made us feel like we got a true experience of Kyoto. I am not a seafood eater but found plenty to eat at the sushi-go-round that we went to for lunch and my bf said it was the best sushi he's had out here.
I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see a lot of the main sites of Kyoto in one day!
The communication prior to the tour was terrific. We were well informed on directions and what to expect. Our tour guide Masa was so friendly and cute. She kept us on track to see all the sites and checked in with everyone regularly to make sure we were happy and comfortable throughout the day. My 14 yo son loved seeing the temples and shrines. My husband and I loved being able to see all the sites in 1 day. It was a long day but now we know where we would like to spend our time for the remainder of the trip. We highly recommend this tour and especially Masa. She was a delight!
This tour gives you almost all of the highlights of Kyoto in a single day. The guide is very knowledgable about the city and the sites. The tour uses a combination of public transportation and walking to get around. Using this tour, we were able to see much more of the city than would have been possible trying to see the sites on our own. We stopped for lunch at an automated sushi restaurant that was tasty, fun and economical.
That said, some things you should know - this is a see it, get your social media photos, and keep going style tour. There's little time to loligag about or souvenier shop. Stop, drop and roll. When they say the tour requires fitness, this is not a joke. We walked over 8 miles, including a lot of stairs, hills, uneven surfaces, and some hiking in the woods. I was sore and exhausted at the end. Make sure you're prepared to walk with whatever you need - comfortable clothes, a hat, sunscreen, etc. Overall, we were very pleased with the tour and our guide, and were able to see a lot more of the city in a short amount of time than we would have ever been able to do operating independently. Another thing we enjoyed is our group was small, 10 guests, all from different parts of the US and it was neat to meet some fellow travelers.
Absolutely amazing tour! Why a full day with so many great sights and a wonderful guide to show you around. Megumi was WONDERFUL!! she answered any and all questions we had and shared history and facts we wouldn’t know otherwise. We went to so many sights which even as an experienced traveler, would have a hard time for firing out transportation for. We had a great group of people and I felt like we had known each other for weeks. So sad to part ways. Could not recommend more!
Book this ASAP. We had 3 full days in Kyoto + doing this tour on Day 1, set us up for success. After learning how to get around Kyoto, we were able to revisit sites we wanted to spend more time in on Day 2+3. Masa was our guide and she was phenomenal — gave us so many tips + information of the sites + history of Kyoto! She will also make sure you get pictures! She had impeccable timing — smooth transportation transitions, which seemed effortless. Despite having a busy itinerary for the day, she never made us feel rushed. You’ll need a suica card, cash + wear COMFY shoes (you’ll easy walk 10-12 miles on this tour.) BE ON TIME. The Japanese are 100% punctual + respect your time. For those who arrive on time, they will start the tour and not wait for late parties. There is a tight + busy schedule, but it is 100% worth it - you get to see all the major attractions + if you’re lucky, you’ll see real Geishas in Gion (which is a rarity)! We saw 4 of them in the evening when strolling in Gion. Make sure to eat breakfast as this is a fast paced tour. Lunch is at Kura (revolving sushi bar), which was a hearty meal for all the moving around you’ll be doing. You’ll also have a 20 min snack break later in the day. You’ll finish the tour around 6pm-ish — just in time for dinner. Would do this tour again!
We had Masako as our guide, she was like mother duck always counting her ducklings to make sure they were with her especially since some areas were really crowded. This tour, the guide shares a lot of tidbits and wisdom wherever we went whether it’s the significance of cranes and turtles on poles at the train station or how to pay respects to the gates at temples. This is a well structured tour, they put a lot of thought into the flow and how to go around Kyoto without having to go uphill unless necessary. We used busses, metro, our own 2 feet and I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future they also used scooters. Masako was meticulous in making sure we knew what we were doing.
The tour was really great. I decided to come to Kyoto in short term. I booked the tour 2 days in advance and was relatively ignorant, about which sights there are actually in Kyoto. I knew about temples "and stuff" and it was not enough time to research everything and plan the trips myself. At least for me, it was not enough time, nor did I want to spend that planning time during my vacation in Tokyo.
The tour gave me a pretty great overview of Kyoto, I saw the major sights and our Guide, Megumi, was really friendly and we could chat with her about basically anything. That way I also knew about other aspects of Kyoto (and Japan in general), which were not part of the tour, but helped me plan my next days in Kyoto.
We had a great time on this tour hosted by Megumi during our trip to Kyoto in October 2023. We loved the city and are really glad we could cover so much sites in the city in one day. We wanted to spend a decent amount of time shopping at Kyoto's markets and this service really helped reduce the time we needed to cover most of Kyoto's landmarks. This is great for you if you don't have a lot of time carved out for Kyoto. Megumi was lovely and very accommodating. She shared a lot of cultural anecdotes and information which we would not have got if not for this experience. She also had some good jokes up her sleeve. Would definitely recommend. Only point to note, this experience does not allow for wandering around a lot at each site since this prioritizes coverage of sites across Kyoto. I would certainly recommend this anybody who plans for 3 days or less in Kyoto or for those interested in some good cultural titbits from an awesome tour guide.
My friend and I couldn’t have been happier with our tour and tour guide. She was so wonderful, always making sure we had every one of the 9 of us along frequently so we never lost someone among the crowds or course.
She was absolutely a joy to listen to, learn from and spend the day with. It was a very long day, but we felt we got more than we’d hoped from it.
We actually end up having dinner with three others from the group after the tour ended. We had such a fabulous group! And Daichi (Masa, spelled incorrectly I’m sure and I apologize) was absolutely an 11 out of 10!
This tour was amazing. Kyoto has so many beautiful sights to see but they can be hard to get to. This tour made sure we saw them all in one day. I will say it is a lot of walking so be prepared to ice your feet at the end of the day but we expected this. Our tour guide Masako was kind, friendly and had so much information to share with us. She answered all our questions. We didn’t feel rushed, she ensured we had time for restroom breaks, photo opportunities and the pace of the day was great. Some places we visited were busy so our tour ended up being a little longer. Masako was gracious and stayed with us longer to ensure we saw everything we were supposed to. I cannot recommend this tour enough. Kyoto was amazing and I cannot wait to come back.
This is a great way of getting your bearings if you want to see all the major sites in Kyoto. I don’t know how they were able to orchestrate moving us from place to place using so many methods of public transportation, it was like a ballet. I only wish the sites weren’t so crowded but that was no fault of our guide. It was a magical way to end the day watching sunset over Kyoto at one of the most famous shrines… Which did mean that it was extremely packed. Having someone explain and guide us through the conveyor belt, sushi experience was also a plus. Before warn that because there are so many places you visit, you don’t get much time in each one, as someone who loves to take photographs, I was constantly having to hurry to catch up. Again, to be expected because your visiting 13 places in one very long day. That in itself is amazing.
Exactly as you would expect; a very compact tour that is useful to visit all of the sites mentioned in one day. You get a guide for the entire journey which does save time with travelling efficiently. Our guide was funny and helpful. Given time constraints you don’t have all that much extra time for shopping or eating around the afternoon (bring snacks). If you don’t want to visit half of these and for example hike up the entirety of fushimi inari instead then perhaps it isn’t for you. If you want a quick and stress free day this is worth it!
Great way to see a lot of different places in Kyoto! Especially if it's your first time in the city this tour was great to visit a lot of popular sites that require multiple uses of public transportation and having a guide with you makes it a much smoother process. Masako was a great guide, she was attentive and engaging and made sure we got a chance to see everything while keeping us on schedule (my tour was 10 people which was fine as Masako seemed very used to handling bigger groups so still felt like a personalized experience). They are not kidding about the 20k steps in one day so make sure you have good shoes and willingness to walk a lot that day.
We were lucky to have Masako as our guide. She is funny and knowledgeable about all of the spots we stopped at. We stopped plenty of times to rest, so don't worry if you think there is too much walking. The tour is true to the description in that we were able to see all of the major Kyoto attractions. We were able to take many beautiful photos.
Michiko did an amazing job of wrangling our group and somehow managed to keep us on time, especially since we often wandered off into different directions. Thank you Masako!
This tour is great. I’m so glad we got to do it. It wouldve been very difficult if i navigated going to these sites on my own. What a great value for your time and money as well. It is important that youre wearing comfortable clothes. You’ll be waling a lot.
Megumi was our tour guide. She’s the kindest tour guide i’ve ever met. She’s a wealth of knowledge. Ive been using airbnb whenever i go on tours on other countries, and i have to say.. this is one of the best i’ve ever been to.
Masako was an exceptional tour guide during our journey to 13 remarkable sites. Her knowledge and insights were deeply enriching, and her attentiveness to our entire group, including assisting with transportation details, went above and beyond. While ‘adorable’ might not be the perfect word for an adult, her charm and enthusiasm were genuinely heartwarming. I cannot thank Masako enough for making my last day in Japan truly unforgettable, filled with cherished memories. Highly recommend her for anyone seeking a memorable experience.
If you have the time and want to see sooo many sights but are worried about how to figure it all out… look no further! This tour had it all figured out down to a science! They are not kidding when they say it’s a lot of walking but there are breaks when you get on transportation and it’s well worth it if you think you can manage it. The rotating sushi added a bit of fun and was better than I expected. I will say I wish there was a bit more time at each location but time and day light are a hot commodity. Megumi was an absolutely wonderful host!! She gave just enough historical/relevant detail at each stop, answered everyone’s questions, gave great personalized recommendations, and really tried to get to know everyone throughout the tour. She went above and beyond ❤️
Our tour guide Megumi was amazing, she knew a lot and was kind as well as helpful. We did a lot of sightseeing spots in one day but I never felt rushed and could enjoy every minute of it. When we were craving coffee Megumi found a lovely tea place for us and when we wanted to buy matcha tea she just knew a great spot as well. I loved that we got a print out of the 1 day tour and the information received ahead of time helped to manage expectations. We also received wonderful group pictures from the day.
I highly recommend this tour if you want to cover some of the most amazing sights of Kyoto with an expert and no need to worry about getting from A to B.
Masako was exceptional, she was very thoughtful and kind to everyone. It was forecasted to rain with a low percentage and of course I was unprepared and wham!! she takes out three umbrellas for her group. She’s sweet, funny and impressed me on how much energy she has to do this tour, I was out of energy by lunch but she kept going with such a good attitude. She also noticed I had issues with my Suica transportation card and once the tour was over walked me to the station to make sure it was corrected. I can’t be more grateful to her. I hope she’s appreciated and acknowledged for her work.
Megumi was an amazing host. She did an amazing job of talking to everyone and story telling at each site we visited. She had a binder with pictures and extra information that was really helpful. She also went out of her way to help with an issue I had with my Suica card which would've been hard for me to figure out alone since I do not speak the language. She quickly resolved it at one of the stations we stopped at. She also pivoted quickly when we as a group decided we wanted a coffee pick me up mid afternoon. She found an awesome coffee shop nearby where we took a quick break. A lunch break was also built in, we appreciated it was at a place with actual good food! We've been on other long tours where food has not been the priority or they stop somewhere that isn't very good. When we travel we always want to eat at the good food spots.
Overall it was an awesome tour with a lot of info. Lots of walking so come prepared! We were used to walking about 15 miles a day at that point (from our first week of the trip visiting Tokyo) so it didn't feel hard for us :)
Masa was so kind! The tour itself is grueling with temperatures in mid 90s. We logged over 24,000 steps by the end of the day! But Masa paced it well, with plenty of breaks and access to restrooms. We did not stay in places very long but that is the experience we signed up for. Some of us are going back to Kiyomizu-dera before we leave Kyoto and a couple of us already went back to Sennenzaka to take in the historic streets again. Honestly I didn't do a ton of research ahead of visiting Kyoto, so this tour was the perfect introduction to the big sites. We are just scratching the surface of this wonderful city. We will need to come back! Just not in the summer!
Also we had a lovely group of people with great comraderie and I give credit to Masa for creating that environment for us. We actually saw a tour mate the next day at the Nara train station and said hello.
This was a great experience. Highly recommended!
Masako did a great job showing us around the most popular spots in Kyoto. She also gave us the right amount of informations and historical facts about the places we were visiting. The group pictures that were taken at each spot and sent to us right after the tour were very wholesome and make a nice memory. As first time visitors, it was a great way to get an impression of the famous town.
We had a great day with Masako in Kyoto, although it was one of the hottest summer days in August 2023. We had gone through all the 11 sights, listed and had a good overview abour Kyoto's best known touristic sites. I recommend the tour for those, who have only a short period of time in Kyoto.
The sushi-bar lunch was really cool, as it was at a place that is a little bit off the beaten track, so it was an authentic local place to have lunch. Thanks for the tour !!!
Megumi was a wonderful tour guide and made the day really special. It was HOT (100f+) and she was sure to go at a pace that was comfortable for the group - always checking in to see if we needed breaks. We saw so many wonderful sites! If you have limited time in Kyoto, this tour is a great way to cover a lot of ground. Don't schedule anything for after the tour, though, because you'll be tired!
Had an incredible day exploring Kyoto led by Masa. As other reviews have stated - this is not a tour for people without a certain level of physical fitness. It’s a full 9/10 hours of walking in the heat! However, the experience of it is something to behold. We really got to experience the gems of Kyoto fully, thanks to Masa’s deep knowledge of the area and its history. The tour is really well planned and you really get to know the people you are with as you spend the entire day together! Masa is an amazing guide; her bubbly personality, in-depth knowledge and ability to relate to and cater to every person in her trope brings this experience well beyond just a regular tour. Thank you again Masa for a wonderful day out!
Wow … just wow ! What a wonderful day our family had with Masako and the other amazing people who went on the tour with us . The other reviews are correct , it requires a lot physically (July heat ) However , with all the rest stops and Pocari Sweat drinks /fans/ water …we powered through the heat ( end of July 🥵) and we are so glad we did ! Masako was such a great leader and extremely helpful with everything . I would love to repeat this tour in the Fall or Spring some time in the future . Also, the lunch was great and doing this type of lunch on a tour made it less intimidating for the future ( conveyer belt sushi + other options )
itinerary. It offers a good Kyoto 101 experience as it hits major tourist destinations in the city.
Personally, it was a good hiking and a good way to keep my weight off as I ate too much (and gained so much weight) while I’ve been traveling in Japan.
Our tour guide, Masa, was such an adorable woman, who actually reminded me of my mom. She always made sure everyone was taken care of, gave us a good explanation to each site we visited and was very accommodating to each tourist’s needs. I really regret not tipping her after the tour. She was such an amazing woman and I wish her all the best.
Thank you for the tour.
I cannot recommend this tour enough. Masako was a lovely guide throughout the city. She was well-organized and had so much enthusiasm throughout the tour. All of the places we visited were most (if not all) of the main spots one would visit in Kyoto compressed into a single work-length day. All-in-all such a fantastic experience. I could not recommend this tour enough.
Megumi was a very informative, thoughtful, and caring tour guide! At the start, she gave us an itinerary of all the locations so we could follow along.
The structure of the entire tour was well-thought out, going through all of Kyoto. There were well-timed breaks (lunch, toilet, and during bus/train travel). Megumi provided engaging and easy to understand information about all of the sites. I could not have imagined visiting any of the sites on my own, without any of the cultural context! For example, Megumi taught us how to properly pray, where not to walk while going through the fushimi inari tori gates, and even just basic Japanese phrases to use. The tour ended with us seeing two real Geikos (geishas) and a maiko walking down Gion.
If you are having second thoughts about whether to do the tour or go on your own without a guide, do the tour. Tourists who went on their own took pictures of everything, but knew nothing after leaving. If you want to understand Kyoto history and culture, do it!
Let me start off by saying that I have gone on dozens of guided walking tours in many cities around the world and have been fortunate to have had terrific experiences and great guides. With that said, I doubt whether I have had a better experience than the one Megumi provided. This tour covered an incredible amount of ground (literally as well--we walked more than 20,000 steps!) and was a superbly comprehensive introduction (and more) of Kyoto. The tour covered several major attractions and some lesser-known ones as well. The icing on the cake--and really what made this trip so joyous and memorable--was our tour guide, Megumi. I can wax poetic about her but I've met few people, let alone tour guides, who are as kind, patient, accomodating, helpful, thoughtful, and sincere. She espouses the mantra of "the guest is God" and is truly delightful in every way. We were a wonderful group of 5 and Megumi catered to all our requests and helped with other recommendations and assistance as well (e.g., making dining reservations, suggesting an itinerary off the beaten path). She went way beyond her duties/responsibilities and did so with such grace and good humor that the group's energy never flagged even at the end of an arduous day. In summary, she is A+++. I strongly recommend Jun Tours to everybody (based on our experience with Megumi, we have made a reservation for a similar tour in Tokyo as well). Thank you for such an exceptional time. Much appreciated. 🙏🏽
Masako was the best tour guide I’ve every encountered! She ensured that the group knew how to safely navigate a complicated transportation system, and I appreciated that she informed us about what was going on at any given time. She shared Japanese history and culture everywhere we traveled, made sure we had plenty of rests and breaks along the journey, and checked in with each individual to ask how we were doing. The 9 hour tour was intense for someone like me who drives everyday and doesn’t walk for extended periods of time (and the temperature was hot), however it’s doable if you have a positive mindset, and I felt a great sense of achievement at the completion of the tour. The places we visited were a once in a lifetime experience, each one unique and very special. I highly recommend signing up for this day long tour if you want to see a lot of Kyoto and learn about its history and culture from a very knowledgeable, passionate and kind tour guide. Thank you for everything Masako :)
Megumi is such a warm personality and highly motivated guide (recommendable!). I truly enjoyed walking the six of us through the area. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relief to walk in such a quiet, and rainy but peaceful environment. :)
The atmosphere was great. Megumi was very personable and patient with us and all our inquiries. She was true example of excellent tour guide!
Many thanks again! I highly recommend Jun, Megumi & their team to everyone!
Very good experience! The host was very nice and accommodating. Beautiful places …. and the host was very attentive and enthusiastic. It was fun riding the public transportation, strolling through the bamboo forest and hearing about the stories of different temples. Without the host, we would not have been able to see and experience Kyoto as well as did.
This may be a helpful info. I’ve read it in the reviews that there was a lot of walking and got the impression that there was too many places to visit in one day.
The host was very organized and gave us a print out of the agenda for the day and highlighted three places that were world famous.
I had my mom who is in her early 80s with us. It was a hot humid day. The host was very accommodating and customized the tour to our pace. We booked a private tour with the 6 of us. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience! 👍
Had a great time with this tour! Had Masako as our tour guide and she was very kind, knowledgeable, and efficient. She got us to our destinations in time, and it’s great not having to navigate the bus and train transportation in the city. We managed to see the major highlights of Kyoto and it was def worth it!
It was a packed day, but we managed to see all the highlights of Kyoto! Our guide Megumi was so kind and knowledgeable. She personalized the tour to how our group was feeling in the moment, too. We had some mild rain throughout the day, but it wasn’t too bad. Megumi even had extra umbrellas for the people without one. Definitely bring your most comfortable shoes & a bottle of water, as well as coins for the temple admission fees. Thank you Megumi for a lovely day in Kyoto! 😊
The tour was a great experience for our family. Although we had been to Kyoto before it was so nice to be with a guide who provided explanations at the various shrines and temples. Having someone else walk us through the various bus and train rides with ease also made a significant difference in our enjoyment of the day. If you love to walk and have an appreciation for how much more you can see when doing so I would highly recommend this
Masako was a great guide. Very friendly and took care of us well like we were her kids. When I saw "Kyoto" in one day, I had no idea how accurate that was. You really see all of Kyoto and you will be super exhausted at the end. Tour was around 13 miles of walking over a 9-9.5hr period, but I don't regret walking and sweating that much. It may have been physically challenging, but I really enjoyed it! The tour group actually bonded because enduring the hardship broke down our barriers. Many of us stayed friends. xD
Megumi did a great job drawing the quickest line between a bunch of very spread out locations and we feel like we saw the whole city. She gave us some great local context on background at each location, how to interact at the various shrines and temples, and managed to get us through a week's worth of sightseeing in one day. Thanks to the team and thanks to Megumi!
This is a great tour with TONS of stops all over Kyoto. BE PREPARED!
Wear comfy shoes
Pack snacks (you get lunch but it’s early and quick)
Don’t expect to do much shopping/buying souvenirs
This tour makes sure you see all the sights but it moves pretty quickly. You won’t have a ton of time to shop for souvenirs at each place. The sushi lunch was great but early (11:15 am) and you finish pretty quickly too (11:45am). Bring snacks if you get hungry.
Overall a great way to see everything. Makes it easy to mark which places you want to go back to and spend more time at.
Best decision we ever made was to spend our first of two days in Kyoto on this tour. There is no way we could have seen as much as we did on our own. Our guide knew just how long we needed to feel satisfied at each place. Plus we knew we could come back the next day to anything we wanted more time with, which we didn't. It was a lot of walking, but really very well paced. Breaks were provided at the right moments and I walked away really feeling a sense of accomplishment. And a thousand treasured pictures.
I highly recommend this tour to see everything in one day if you're pressed for time. Kyoto is warm and the sites are stunning. Masako, our tour guide, brought us around in a timely and efficient way to hit everything you would like to see. I did the Tokyo tour and liked it so I did this one. As a solo traveler you can be with people in a small group on this tour.
I wanted to give a review of our guide Megumi and the tour she gave. She was magnificent! She has a warm, friendly and fun loving disposition. She did a wonderful job of guiding us to each site efficiently. Her pacing was excellent. My one concern prior to taking the tour was that it would feel rushed, but not so with Megumi. We had enough time at each area to really take it in without lingering longer than necessary. She took little breaks at the right times. She was informative and her insights really enhanced the experience. She was always so friendly and had a great smile, she really made you feel welcome. As I told, her she made some beautiful lifelong memories for my daughter and I and she will be a significant part of those memories. Would want to come back and take the tour with my wife and son one day. Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Japan/Kyoto. Thank her from us‼️👍🏼😃
