3-Hour Home-Stay & Bento Masterclass: Shop, Cook, and Chat Like a Local
"We believe the best part of travel isn't seeing a monument, but entering a home. Join us for a 3.5-hour immersion that feels like visiting an old friend."
Welcome to the Authentic Heart of Tokyo!
While Tokyo offers breathtaking sights and neon lights, true immersion comes from connecting with its people. Skip the tourist crowds and step into a real Tokyo home—a true living space—to discover the daily routines, practical culinary traditions, and warm hospitality that define our modern culture. This is not a commercial studio; it is an invitation into our lives, designed to help you discover the "real" Japan through its most iconic meal: The Bento.
---
Why we are NOT a typical cooking class:
1. The "Non-Touristy" Tokyo Neighborhood Experience
We don't operate in busy commercial districts. We take you to a real residential neighborhood. You will see the clever space-saving kitchens, unique home layouts, and the authentic, quiet lifestyle of Tokyoites that most travelers never get to see.
2. The "Supermarket Safari" & Local Wisdom
Most cooking classes have ingredients pre-measured on a table. We believe the magic starts at the market. We explore the local supermarket together, teaching you how to read Japanese labels, identify seasonal gems, and shop with the "Smart Tokyo Life" mindset.
3. Master 4 Iconic Dishes, Not Just One
While many classes focus on only Ramen or Sushi, we teach you the "Four Pillars of the Bento." By the end of this 3.5-hour masterclass, you will have gained the skills to recreate a full, balanced Japanese meal back in your own country. Total mastery, not just a tasting.
---
What You Can Expect (The Full 3.5-Hour Itinerary):
1. Stroll Tokyo Like a Local Resident (45 min)
Meet your host at a local station and stroll through a typical neighborhood. Experience Japan through a resident's eyes, perhaps visiting a community shrine or hidden local spots tucked away from the guidebooks. This is your introduction to the rhythm of local life.
2. Hands-on Modern Home Cooking Secrets (75 min)
In a real home kitchen, we will prepare a stunning, high-quality Japanese Bento together. We share practical, modern techniques used in busy Japanese households today.
- Artisan Onigiri: Learn the soul food of Japan, from the "Golden Ratio" of salt to the perfect shaping technique. (Or the stunning, samurai-style Iwakuni Sushi Cake if booking our Shibuya host!)
- Hand-folded Gyoza: Master the art of the perfect fold and the secret to a crispy "wing" finish.
- Classic Crispy Karaage: Learn the marinating secrets for the ultimate Japanese fried chicken.
- Dashi-maki Tamagoyaki: The technical highlight! Master the rolling technique of the iconic dashi-infused omelet.
3. Bento Styling, Lunch Party & Cultural Dialogue (90 min)
The finale! We will beautifully arrange your handmade dishes into a Bento box, creating an edible masterpiece. Enjoy your meal while engaging in deep conversations about work, life, and culture. Your host, often with a background in news media or local industry, offers unique insights into the "real" Tokyo. We conclude the experience with a relaxing Matcha or Green Tea ceremony, reflecting on the day's creations.

Special Note for Our Guests:
Our standard menu features Onigiri, but for those booking our Shibuya host, you will experience the rare and traditional Iwakuni Sushi Cake—a beautiful, layered pressed sushi originally created for feudal lords. Please check the host profile for specific menu availability.
*Please inform us of any dietary restrictions or allergies in advance. We feel like a local friend, and we can't wait to welcome you into our home!

Reviews
My friends and I really enjoyed spending time with Nobuko! She speaks perfect English and she is a really nice and caring person, but what really amazed us was her food! We had fun making lunch with her and then we ate the most delicious fish ever!!! Overall, a great experience, Nobuko is fantastic!
I booked this experience hoping to meet a local and get an authentic culinary experience, and that’s exactly what I received!! Nobuko, my host, picked me up from the train station and took me on a nice stroll through town under the Sakura blossoms. Her English is great and we were able to communicate perfectly. The meal we prepared was delicious and I’ll never forget the time I was able to share with Nobuko!
My home stay with Nobuko was amazing. We had a great time chatting about our lives while we prepared a lovely miso salmon meal at her home. If you are like me and love to see how locals live outside the tourist zones, this is the perfect experience.
Really enjoyed this experience - the cooking was simple enough that much of it could be replicated at home (which I certainly plan to do!), but the context provided throughout the process is what really made it special. It's in a beautiful location, slightly off the beaten path, but an easy walk from the subway station. The hosts couldn't have been kinder, and the temple was stunning. Highly recommend.
It’s a really spiritual experiences.
We cook with Yuuri in a small neighborhood temple. Yuuri not only show my their religion and culture but also their living style. And Michiko, she traveled more than one hour to do translation for us. Really appreciate their efforts. Nice experiences :)
