Michiko was a perfect guide. She met us immediately as we stepped off the train in Sawai. Michiko knew precisely where to go and what to do and learned enough about us to treat us well during the hike.
The hike itself is BEAUTIFUL! It reminded us a lot of Hawaii. The onsen was a perfect spot to end and was so very relaxing. There was food at the onsen as well, which was delicious and affordable (we all got cold soba 💛)
10/10 amazing experience. It's also great to see the mountain range of Tokyo and get away from all the hustle and bustle. Additionally, Michiko knew excellent English, and we had an enjoyable time with her. It was nice to have her around so that she could go to the onsen and other establishments nearby. We would have had a hard time without her. THANK YOU!

Reviews
This is a wonderful day out from Tokyo. Whether or not you're already familiar with 'rural' Japan, doing something outside of the hustle and bustle of Tokyo such as this is highly recommended.
This experience contains multiple activities which compliment each other well. Michiko-san is an experienced and thoughtful guide who led our group very well. The experience isn't rushed so you really get a chance to soak it all up (quite literally). All in all, a great experience.
This was our second experience with Team Jun (and the same guide) this week. I cannot say enough how truly magical the location was for our hike and how great the hike itself was. It was a great pace for getting in a bit of a sweat right before heading into the onsen which was also amazing! Our guide was so kind and thoughtful, truly a gem of Team Jun. If you haven’t decided on a great excursion away from the city into the lush, riverside forests of Japan, this is the one you want!
This experience was truly life-changing! Michiko-san was extremely sweet. She met us at the station out in the countryside and lead us to our first stop, Ozawa Sake Brewery. This is the oldest sake brewery in Japan, and we had a tour of the production process. The staff was so kind. After the brewery tour, we tasted a few of the sakes we were most excited about. They were all absolutely delicious! Michiko gave brought us delicious warm red bean buns as we finished our tasting. We actually had so much fun, we missed our train! We bought a bottle of the hanami sake and waited until the next train. We went for a hike (important to have good shoes!) and while it was pretty mild and not difficult to navigate, it was still quite a great workout! Beautiful scenery of the Japanese countryside, away from the city lights. We learned so much about Japanese culture while chatting on our hike, and practiced our Japanese a bit too. Michiko was so warm and friendly, she felt like a friend we had known for years! We walked along the Nippara and Tama Rivers, I believe. Once we got to the small town area, we stopped at Yamashiro Wasabi Shop. The snacks there are too yummy, and they have a pretty large selection of wasabi goods. The shop is Edo-style, very cool. Finally after a long day of adventures......we ended the tour at a Onsen. The restaurant was closed because we ran a bit behind, but we were able to have a nice long soak in the hot outdoor baths. This is a zero-clothing zone, just a forewarning if you are not used to this culturally! This onsen is tattoo-friendly, which was actually the main reason this tour had caught my eye online. As a foreigner, tattoos are very common in my community as fashion or to honor your loved ones forever as art on your body. I was very worried my tattoos would be scary or disrespectful in Japanese culture but I wasn't treated any differently and was perfectly fine entering the onsen! The outdoor baths were so lovely, but you must be careful you don't soak too long and get dizzy! I soaked my legs mostly, it was quiet and peaceful. We finished at the onsen and made our way to the station. It was so sad to say goodbye to Michiko, we didn't want our adventure to end. This was such a life-changing memory for my partner and I. We will remember this moment for our whole lives. Thank you Michiko for such a fun day in Japan! We will be back again!
This has definitely been a magical time. Michiko was very engaging and helpful. We enjoyed her company and energy immensely. We were able to see different type of Japan after our week in Tokyo. I recommend this experience to everyone! The hike was tiring, but rewarding. The views were like nothing else. The onsen was lovely and relaxing.
Michiko is very knowledgeable about the mountain and provided many cultural explanations along the way. A unique experience to see all the season change colors.
This was the best tour I went on during my trip by far! Amazing tour guide and perfect way to spend the day! Highlight of my trip to Japan!
Our day with Jun was amazing! The hike was invigorating and the natural surroundings were beautiful. But hiking around and through shrines and temples made it very special. We felt like it was more of a pilgrimage than a hike! Jun shared her knowledge with us about the area, Buddhism, Shinto, the culture and customs. After the hike, we had fun visiting an onsen. I don't know if we would have gone to an onsen without having Jun to explain the process and rituals to enjoy the soak. Great day!
Yasuko is the main star of this experience. I love how she tried to have conversations during our 4hrs hiking. She is a good listener, great English speaker and such a lovely person 🫶🏼
Michiko was a great guide, very friendly and helpful and with great knowledge about this entire region! Perfect hiking tour whether you are used to be in the mountains or not. Not very difficult, but also far enough to feel you really did a good walk - if you are in good shape. Beautiful shrines and temples on the way.
The visit at the onsen in the the end was magic. Perfect ending of the hike.
Michiko was such a fantasic host, I can't recommend her tour enough! She was so knowledgeable and had so much interesting information to share, was super friendly and thoughtful 😊 Not to mention the views from the top of Takao-san were stunning!
This tour was one of the best ways to get away from Tokyo “noise”. Michiko-san was one of the most attentive tour guides I have ever had and I enjoyed learning and getting to know more about Japanese culture. This hike was a good challenge, but seeing nature and shrines along the trail is worth the effort. We spent the entire day hiking and then a relaxing time at an onsen and restaurant. I highly recommend this day tour for a tourist or curious resident!!
This was such a wonderful day! Moeko did a great job of personalizing the tour and made me feel so welcome and comfortable. A fantastic way to spend my birthday 😊
This was the best part of my trip. Getting outdoors and that hike was truly appreciated.
Michiko was a great guide and host. She shared many interesting facts and stories about Takaosan.
cheerful guide and very welcoming
Our guide Yasuko was amazing. She is kind and knowledgeable in every way. Thank you for this awesome
amazing host and great location to hike
Great escape from the busy city with one of our favorite onsens to finish a gorgeous hike
Many thanks for making it happen only for one person. So refreshing with Onsen after hiking…
This was such a fun trip! The sights are amazing, and the guide was fun and caring.
