Genuine Wagashi Experience by the Maestro at his Mochi Shop

Welcome to Tokyo, Japan!

If you have the opportunity to come to Tokyo, we hope you will not only enjoy sightseeing, but also have a unique Japanese experience.

Join us making delicious and beautiful "Wagashi", traditional Japanese sweets.

Unlike generic Wagashi making classes held in apartments, this experience offers instruction from a Japanese Wagashi artisan in his small, quaint, local, real Mochi shop.

For this reason, many national and international celebrities have also become our guests, for example, Marion Cotillard, Junji Takada, Akiko Hinagata, Aya, Asahina.

When you come to our Mochi shop, first, please watch closely and learn while the artisan demonstrates how to make Wagashi, then it's your turn to try your hand at Wagashi making.

Among many types of Wagashi, you will be making some pieces of seasonally inspired "Nerikiri", a kind of Wagashi made of sweet white bean paste and Mochi.

Even if you have little experience in creative activities or cooking, we will carefully guide you through the process.

Delicately form the colored dough into various shapes by hand, and carefully add lines with tools to perfectly portray "the seasonal beauty of Japan".

【note】
Please understand previously that the host of this experience is not a commercial type of person, but a Japanese real Wagashi artisan. And usually, Japanese real artisan cannot speak English well. But we will do our best to make you enjoy this experience!

This is a quaint local Wagashi shop which the my father started in Shijuku city, Tokyo, founded in 1961, more than 60 years ago.

And I took over my father's shop.
As a professional, I've been making Japanese sweets for 30 years.

My Wagashi shop offers a whole selection of delectable Japanese sweets -both baked and unbaked- including Mochi, Dango, Dorayaki, and Nerikiri.
Not only elderly people, but also even elementary school students in the neighborhood come to buy the products with their pocket money.

My goal is to create "dreamy" Japanese sweets" that delight not only people's palates, but also their eyes with their sophisticated beauty.
I also regularly host classes to let Tokyo people experience firsthand the fun of making beautifully detailed Japanese sweets.

I had a great time learning how to shape nerikiri wagashi. It was quite challenging and involved many steps, but the host was very patient and went over the steps with us repeatedly.

We had fun learning how to make the sweets! It was an interesting experience being able to learn Japanese culture and speaking to the host !

In this workshop I did 4 wagashi Nerikiri (2 summer sky and 2 Bell flower). Firstly the host will show you each step to make the wagashi, then you will do it together and for the last one you do it alone. It will point which part is hard and explain again if necessary. The host is very pedagoge and explain well. At the end of the workshop you will be able to return back home with 4 wagashi in 2 box's and a bag. You will have too, 2 documents about the steps to form the wagashi (flower...) so you can make it again. I really appreciated this experience and I recommend this workshop 👌

Thank you very much, it was very interesting and the host is very pedagogue 👍

Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
Learning to make nerikiri was quite challenging, but the instructor was excellent at showing us the basics.
He gave detailed steps, ensuring we understood each step, and then we practiced on our own.
We did 白菊 (white chrysanthemum) and 桔梗 (bell flower).
Overall, it was a fantastic experience to learn from someone who is a professional. Will definitely give a 5 star rating.

Good time learning how to do nerikiri. We did asagao(morning glory) and mizudori(bird). It's pretty hard but the sensei shows you the basics of how to do it, then he gives guided instruction, and then you see how much you remember. You take back 4 pieces and a general recipe in Japanese. Overall a great experience to learn from someone actively working in the field.

It was a warm atmosphere to learn in. I was a little worried to take the class as I am tattooed, married to a Japanese tattooer. When we lived in Japan before, we faced a lot of discrimination or discomfort from local Japanese people, but I felt welcomed to the class. All materials were prepared for us and we had the chance to try to different wagashi styles with instruction and without, testing the memory of what we just learned. The language barrier wasn’t an issue and most of what we learned could be understood with instruction and visually watching. It looked easier to do than it actually was, but I still had a very fun time and want to explore doing Wagashi in the future! Thank you so much for your time and for giving a warm atmosphere to learn in.

Thank you for not being judgmental on tattooed appearance and thank you for your time! ☺️

Very unique and culturally rewarding experience! We learned to make two nerikiri wagashi. The instructor shows you how to make it once, then he does it again while you follow along, then you get another try by yourself. It was challenging in a good way. The instructor's wagashi are beautiful and you can tell immediately just how professional he is at this. By the end, I wanted to keep trying to perfect my own attempts, and it deepened my interest in wagashi a lot more. I'd love to repeat this experience and try additional seasonal designs!

We had a great experience with our two teenager daughters learning how to make Mocchi. The host was fun, patient and knowledgeable. Totally recommended.

Thanks for the experience!

I had a great time with this wagashi making experience! I have no cooking or baking skills and I don’t speak Japanese, so when I arrived and realized I was the only that didn’t know Japanese I was apprehensive. But the master was so kind and everyone else joining also helped to translate. I did better than I thought with making the wagashi so it felt so great! I think this was the highlight of my whole trip. I also bought some dangos from the shop and it is so delicious!! The shop is so cute and picturesque with hydrangea flowers growing in front of it. A must try experience when in Japan!!

Lovely cultural experience with a real Wagashi master and lovely local people. The class was small and intimate. The teacher spoke English well enough so we could understand the directions. We made two different designs of wagashi. It was fun, relaxing and easy to find off the subway Tozai line Waseda station. Highly recommend for kids and adults. My son is 12 and he enjoyed the class and was able to replicate the design!

Such a fun experience with my 14yo son! We loved it. Really enjoyed the art of making Japanese sweets from a very experienced family who have been doing it for over 60 years.

This was an amazing cultural experience.
We (my husband, sister in law, and I) loved learning to make Neri-kiri and teacher actually knew more English than he let on!
He was very patient in teaching us, and we didn’t feel rushed even though we were much slower and less experienced than he is.
The shop where he teaches is pretty easy to find.
It’s on the corner of an intersection and they flagged us down when they saw us looking confused.
Service and hospitality was top notch.
We would definitely recommend learning to make Neri-kiri as we learned today that it was registered as an official non-tangible cultural item of Japan just a few months ago!

It was very cool to make wagashi and further more it is tasty! It is a step towards japanese culture. We recommend this activity without hesitation!

This is the cutest little shop and learning how to make Wagashi was such a fun experience.
Teacher provides you with tea to enjoy while you’re taking the class. It’s a fun hands on experience, not too challenging but new and takes a bit to master.
He also gives you a bag and box to take your masterpiece home, very thoughtful.
Class is taught in English.

It's a wonderful experience
It was a very enjoyable and valuable experience. I had an experience with my daughter, and I was overjoyed that she was very happy. The sweets I made were also very delicious. He also taught me how to make it very carefully. The sweets will change as the season changes, so I would like to experience it again.

This was a fun class to learn the traditional art of wagashi sweets. The class was in an actual sweets shop, which made for a truly authentic experience. The teacher selected the sweets to make based on the season (sakura and spring themes), and we made two of each type to really get the feel of how to make them. The wagashi was beautiful, delicious, and so much fun to make. I appreciate that the instructor also explained the philosophy of appealing to all five senses when making wagashi, it makes me appreciate this traditional craft even more.
